Michigan 4-H Children’s Garden
The Michigan 4-H Children’s Garden in East Lansing, MI, provides children with a hands-on experience with colorful plants, flowers, trees, and shrubs and a pond, waterfall, and other features. Lansing schools struggle to fill out teaching vacancies.
The Lansing School District struggles to fill 70 teaching positions, more than the urban school system needed to fill this time last year. Recruiter Andrew Utter is not perturbed, as $2,000 signing bonuses and other efforts are being made to draw and retain the best teachers for the district. Other school districts are in a similar situation to Lansing’s because there are currently many teacher openings and a shortage in some areas. Last year, Lansing had 45 teaching vacancies to fill, and other Greater Lansing districts also had vacancies. This year, Charlotte Public Schools has ten openings, while public schools in East Lansing, Eaton Rapids, Mason, Williamston, and Leslie report a handful of open jobs. The Lansing School District starts classes on Aug. 28 with changes, including a new standalone career and technical education high school and J.W.
